Chanel

After a major makeover, Chanel’s Soho locale is gleaming with even more panache: The elegant black-and-white motif is so distractingly sophisticated that we almost forgot how much the luxe pieces actually cost (almost). Splurge on a pair of to-die-for python flats ($995) or sunglasses detailed with denim and pearls ($290). If such luxuries are out of your league, take heed that there are some logo-embossed goodies that won’t burn out your wallet, such as red-carpet-ready nail polish ($23) and lipgloss ($30). 139 Spring St at Wooster St (212-334-0055, chanel.com). Mon–Sat 11am–7pm, Sun noon–6pm.

Filene’s Basement—SYMS Tailored & Tux

Mega-bargain chain Filene’s Basement partnered with another big-box store, SYMS, to rebrand as one shop. The Upper West Side Filene’s moved its men’s department next door into what was formerly SYMS, tripling the space in the women’s department. With a shared ownership, a separate entrance for Filene’s on 79th St, and a second doorway to SYMS on 80th St, each store has an abundance of American and European designer steals. Score women’s always-posh Missoni sweaters dipped from $600 to $40–$100, and Romeo and Juliet peasant blouses for just $40 (originally $88). The “Designer Vault” section offers high-end garb and accessories from Gucci, Prada, Burberry and more. On a recent visit, we scouted D&G animal-print bustier dresses for $285 (normally $700) and Ray-Ban Wayfarers clipped from $120 to $70. Wall Street gents should head to the “Tailored and Tux” department, which provides an on-site tailor with a two-day turnaround for alterations on any of the 3,000 suits in stock. Also available for the lads: suede Cole Haan jackets knocked down from $495 to $140–$300 and Polo Ralph Lauren tweed newsboy caps for a mere $18 (as opposed to $36). 2222 and 2228 Broadway between 79th and 80th Sts (212-873-8000, filenesbasement.com). Mon–Sat 9am–10pm, Sun 11am–8pm.

Goodwill Greenwich Village

This NYC thrift shop has opened another location that meshes perfectly with the Village aesthetic by offering on-trend, funky finds. The store features both vintage and new apparel, shoes, accessories and home goods, and it is organized with spaced out, clearly labeled racks. The women's section is filled with prom dresses, lingerie, blazers, designer bags and tops. On a recent visit, we discovered Salvatore Ferragamo loafers with silver buckles ($25), Kate Spade red kitten heels ($30) and thin rusty-gold bangles with Egyptian-like patterns ($4 each). While the gents' section is smaller than the ladies', there are designer duds to be had. Snag William Rast jeans ($25), J.Press tan lace-up loafers ($30) and a Jos. A. Bank beige houndstooth blazer ($25). The housewares selection has kitschy blue cat-shaped salt and pepper shakers ($3 each) and standard Keurig coffeemakers ($75). Roll through the streets of New York on your new Razor scooter ($30) or lie in bed writing your innermost thoughts in a Twilight journal featuring photos of the characters on the cover (four for $10). Before you head out the door, grab the Backstreet Boys' We've Got It Going On CD single ($4), a Lucky Brand iPad case ($25) or The Office DVD board game ($8). 44 W 8th St between Sixth Ave and MacDougal St (212-477-7024). Mon--Sat 10am--9pm, Sun 10am--8pm.
